Why is Ubuntu Linux so much slower when installed via wubi ?

Q. as opposed to installing it on a new partition.

I suppose the difference is negligible when using a decent laptop, but on netbooks, it takes a looong time to even open a folder.
Why is this so?

A. Ubuntu does not load all the OS into ram therefore some files have to be accessed from the hard drive. The wubi install is like accessing a hard drive on a hard drive so its slow.

If you want a fast frugal install then puppy linux is very fast.

How good is my laptop netbook?
Q. This what my system specs are:
Ubuntu
Release 12.04 (precise) 32-bit
Kernel Linux 3.2.0-29-generic-pae
GNOME 3.4.2

Hardware
Memory: 989.9 MiB
Processor: Intel® Atom⢠CPU N2600 @ 1.60GHz à 4
Graphics: Intel® Graphics Media Accelerator 3600
Available disk space: 260 GiB

Laptop specs
RAM: 1GB DDR3
10.1" LED LCD (1,024x600)
Gateway LT4010u

Priced at $228. Was this worth less or more than the price?

A. It`s a pretty good netbook for the price.

Would a netbook be good for web surfing and spreadsheet management?
Q. I am looking at some of the inexpensive netbooks, and trying to figure out if it is worth it. Here is what I need t to be able to do:

Surf the net
Use Y! Messenger
Use basic spreadsheet program for home business
Play some online games (pokerstars.net, yahoo games, etc)

I know some of them don't use windows, but use a different OS (linux?). Would this be an issue with what I am wanting to do?

A. Surfing and games, yes. Spreadsheets, no. The screen is too small and you'd have to magnify the spreadsheets quite a bit to work with them which would cause it to be very slow to work with them.
