What is the best Linux version to get?

Q. I've been using Windows ever since I was 3, so that's 12 years ago. Now, I'm using Windows Vista, but I would like to give it a try with other OS. So which is the best version of Linux (since it's free) to get?

Between Linpus, Ubuntu, or something else?

A. Lets Give him An Answer,,,

Dear,
I Have Searched The Best Linux Version Too
But, Really I Found that It Depends On What You Want To Do On that Linux

If you Want Just To Try It
I Recommend Ubuntu Or Kubuntu {KDE Desktop, Easier}
Use It Live, Don't Install, Cuz The Loading Is The Same Between The Installed And Live CD

But If You Want A Full Version With Packages, I Recommend Redhat 9 Or Earlier, It's Amazing; If You Installed All It's Packages; you Will Never Look To Any OS Again

More For Mandriva , Its Good Too

But If You Want It As A Server, We Usually Use Redhat Enterprise 10
Linpus Is A Godd Choice Too, Like Ubuntu

And Don't Forget To Check your Hardware Compatabiltiy, Like Sata Drives, AMD Processor, And More Things
>>>Any Payments For Linux Downloads Will Not Be For The Os Itself, but For The Third Party Packages ;)
Hope This Help

can someone plz tell me the advantages and disadvantages of Linux?
Q. pros and cons of Linux and which versions are better, and why are they better plz.

A. Why Linux Is Better

I thoroughly recommend Linux Mint 8 Main Edition which is built upon Ubuntu 9.10 Its easy to install and easy to use plus it comes with much of the software you are likely to need preinstalled

You download the ISO. image of Linux Mint 8 then you need to create a Bootable LiveCD for installation

Linux Mint 8 can also be run direct from the LiveCD from Booting up without touching your Hard Drive

INSTALL LINUX MINT WITHIN WINDOWS (not currently available for Linux Mint 8)

To install Linux Mint within windows you will need the earlier release Linux Mint 7 which is built upon Ubuntu 9.04

Linux Mint 7 Download
http://www.linuxmint.com/edition.php?id=38

Linux Mint 7 has a feature called mint4win based on the Wubi installer (Ubuntu) which enables you to install Linux Mint within windows (Windows 7 run Wubi/mint4win in vista compatability mode)

Installing Ubuntu as a dual-boot with Windows without partitioning

You keep Windows as it is, mint4win only adds an extra option to boot into Linux Mint. mint4win does not require you to modify the partitions of your PC, or to use a different bootloader, and does not install special drivers. It works just like any other application.

mint4win like Wubi keeps most of the files in one folder, and if you do not like it, you can simply uninstall it as any other application.

Boot in to windows insert the LiveCD you have just created and you will offered the option of installing inside windows which is where mint4win comes in, you will be asked how many gigabytes you wish to allocate to Linux Mint (I recommend 8gb) then you set a password for your installation then click install and thats it.

Once Linux Mint 7 is fully installed upon starting your PC you will be given a choice of which operating system you want to use Windows or Linux Mint

Changing OS from Windows 7 to Linux; Will I need to re-purchase Mathematica?
Q. I recently purchased a home-use license for Mathematica and did a direct download of the Windows version to my computer. I have decided to switch my operating system from Windows 7 to Linux Mint. Will I be able to install the Linux version of Mathematica without having to purchase a new license? I suppose what I'm wondering is whether or not a Mathematica home-use license is OS-specific. Any and all relevant information will be greatly appreciated.

A. Well, here's another way to run Mathematica on Linux. All you need to do is just install a program called Wine. With the help of Wine, you can run almost any Windows application on Linux. So, you don't need to buy another Mathematica. Just install Wine and you're done.
Check out on Google for Wine for Linux.
