How do open software makers earn?

Q. Firefox is absolutely free and yet there is a team of programmers behind it. How do they get money? Same for linux devolopers

A. Linux guys and girls do it in their spare time and consult, Mozilla is a charitable foundation.

What do i use to write a database for a site like GameSpot or IGN?
Q. I have a gaming sit, but i dont have a database to store game information, reviews, videos and such for each game, what can i use to build a database to store that information?

A. Most web hosting companies offer a database system that you can use. On linux hosts (the most popular), you will always find MySQL installed.

But to be clear, a database like MySQL is a foundation. It takes programming to work worth with and it is quite a bit of work to build all that you described.

If you search for some open source software on http://sourceforge.net, you might find a tool that you can install on your site to help you do reviews and ratings.

Truthfully, if you are overwhelmed by this at all, you need professional support. This is the type of project my company can do for you. Of course there are costs if you hire a professional programmer to help you.

Does anyone know a good program that types what I say?
Q. I'm pretty much blind and can't read my keyboard screen very well. I need to be able to talk and have it type for me, and me just edit it without straining my eyes. I can't pay for it, so it needs to be free.
Thanks!

A. Windows does have a built in Speech Recognition program. Go to Control Panel- Ease of Access- Start Speech Recognition. I"m sure Apple and Linux have this as well.

Or you can contact State Services for the Blink in your state and see if they are able to recommend services for you (they will pay for services as well if you quality). You can purchase screen readers such as JAWS or MAGIC (magnification program I beleave).
