Q. I installed the command line version of Ubuntu and when my computer starts all I get is a flashing cursor. When I try to type, no text appears on the screen. Is there a fix for this?
A. It sounds like there is no boot loader. This is the code that first gets loaded from the HD to start loading the OS. This page explains how to fix this problem:

Linux ES 4 version does not Turn off when I give the shut down command.It is only show acpi_power_off called.?
Q. The CPU does not turn off while i give the command. It will do the normal steps and at last it does not turn off and showing "acpi_power_off called."
